1. The Invitation

Fommes.org invites scholars, educators, linguists, and activists to collaborate in the creation of a new generation of sensitive, research-based online self-assessment tools.

Our goal is to study and reveal how everyday language reflects — and often reproduces — gender biases.
Through short, multilingual quizzes, we aim to transform complex academic knowledge into an accessible, reflective experience that encourages awareness without judgment.

This initiative seeks to connect research, design, and pedagogy — translating the insights of gender studies and linguistics into a living digital experiment.

2. Where linguistics meets introspection

Language is not neutral.
It guides perception, defines roles, and silently transmits cultural hierarchies.
By exploring how people spontaneously use and interpret gendered expressions, we can better understand the mechanisms that sustain inequality — and the ways we can transform them.

Our platform allows for the creation of interactive, research-grade questionnaires — combining text, images, and scale-based responses — that can automatically be translated across languages to study cultural variations.

Each quiz is:

  • Voluntary and anonymous
  • Aesthetic and participatory
  • Designed for introspection, not judgment

3. The Academic and Civic Purpose

The project serves two intertwined objectives:

Research and data collection

Education and awareness

The ultimate purpose is to create a bridge between social science research and cultural experience.

4. Methodological Foundation

Our design draws from:

  • Implicit Association Testing (IAT) principles to reduce self-censorship and social desirability bias.
  • Cognitive and linguistic psychology, ensuring response validity.
  • Digital storytelling and gamified learning, keeping engagement high while maintaining academic rigor.

Each quiz includes indirect questioning, neutral framing, and scenario-based responses to elicit genuine reactions.
Completion time averages 2–3 minutes — enough for reflection, brief enough for attention.

5. Collaboration Opportunities

We welcome contributions from:

  • University departments and research centers in linguistics, gender studies, or social psychology
  • Educators who wish to integrate gender-awareness tools in their teaching
  • Writers, artists, and designers interested in narrative forms of linguistic reflection
  • Activists seeking evidence-based communication tools

Collaborators may:

  • Propose and design thematic quizzes
  • Conduct cross-cultural or longitudinal studies
  • Use anonymized datasets for analysis or publication
  • Co-author reflective essays and reports with Fommes.org

6. Ethics and Accessibility

All participation is strictly anonymous and consent-based.
Collected data serves research and educational purposes only, and is never used commercially.
We maintain transparency regarding methodology, data handling, and translation protocols.

The entire platform is open-access and multilingual, embodying our commitment to inclusive knowledge.

7. Call to Action

We are now building the first collection of scholarly and activist-designed quizzes.
Each will explore a different facet of language and gender — from metaphors to syntax, from humor to professional vocabulary.
